Mr. Nicholas Belyayev
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MYSELF
Hello! My name is Nicholas Belyayev. There is much that can be attributed to my "autobiography", however, I will keep it as short as possible. I graduated from Carmel High School in 2017 and was born and raised in Carmel my entire life, so I bleed Greyhound blue and gold.
I am currently a student in the Bachelor of Arts program for Secondary Education Social Studies from Indiana University, my estimated year of graduation is 2021. I strive to be able to teach U.S. History-Grade 11 and/or U.S. Government-Grade 12. I have solidified my knowledge of being a teacher and my desire to be one through many experiences in my life. One experience I have had in my life includes being a service learner at the Boy's and Girl's Club of Ellettsville, Indiana. Here, I interacted with children in Kindergarten to those who are young adults in High School. Having this opportunity at the Boy's and Girl's Club allowed for me to be able to further my communication skills with students and to get to interact and make personal connections with these children. I am very excited to be able to do the same thing when I become a teacher.
I believe that every student is capable of great things, which consist of my pedagogical beliefs. I believe that each of you can become scholars in my classes, as long as you pay attention and more importantly believe in success and improvement. To succeed in my classes, you are seldom allowed to "slack", they are all about giving and showing effort. That is what I believe in as a teacher and on how students can succeed. As a teacher, I believe that students should be given the best possibility to succeed. I believe that in order to succeed, students must attend class, stay concentrated, do their homework, take notes, and be responsible. I know that in my class, along with the meat and bones of a typical social studies course, we will be integrating many fun activities throughout the year to engage the students in what we are learning. Which is another thing I believe in, problem based learning.

Within the classroom, I believe that technology is an asset as opposed to a liability. Therefore, I require students to bring in either tablets/smartphones/laptops to class everyday since we will utilize them often. The only thing I have with regards to technology in the classroom is when they are not being used for learning purposes, they must be put away. Students will be encouraged to "BYOD", (Bring Your Own Device) on a day to day basis. Although we will be utilizing things such as tablets and phones in class, I will not hesitate to take away phones if they become either a distraction to myself, the student, and/or the entire class. Technology will be a major asset in our learning this year, and I hope this is not a trait that will be taken advantage of.
